OPEN YOUR MIND CASE 17: Oddisee

With the fall season in a flux and man-fabricated weather being a common topic of discussion, it would seem like the only certainty we have when it comes to the seasons is that DMV’s Oddisee will continue to churn out heat… Rain...sleet, hail...snow man. Odd Autumn is a mostly instrumental project that further solidifies his diverse production range as Oddisee transports listeners into musical spheres that are not traditionally hip-hop, while still keeping us grounded with his patented soulful taste. Much like its predecessor, this project is not short of the get up get out and git something (productive) music especially for those dull autumn days when one lacks the proper motivation; take for example Tell The Truth, Every Day People or Almost A Year Since. The latter which begins with a mesh of sounds that will almost definitely conjure up images of mushrooms, dwarfs, and your favorite childhood video games before kicking into a sonically addictive hyperdrive that you wish would never end. Unlike Odd Summer, this project actually contains some rhyming from a rapper by the name of Tranquil, Oddisee’s “absolute favorite U.K. MC”; my preference has always been Roots Manuva…I’m jusayin’. Simply put, Oddisse’s music speaks for its Gotdamn self!
