Souls Of Mischief (Cover Art & Tracklisting)

Following creative differences, Jive and Souls of Mischief parted ways soon after the release of their sophomore LP. This less than amicable split would result in the creation of the crew’s Hieroglyphics Imperium Records; a label that would emerge as a blueprint for successful independent hip-hop labels. On December 2nd, the Oakland, CA quartet will release their first musical offering in almost ten years, Montezuma‘s Revenge. In an effort to bring something novel to their creative table, the group enlisted painter, Steven Lopez whose works also include a collaboration with Soul songstress, Erykah Badu, to handle the album’s art cover (photographs were used for previous releases). The radiant result is a narrative piece as described by Steven, "I dislike pictures that are purposely posed, so I would talk to each member and ask them to reenact certain memories and moments. Those were the shots that I was looking for. It was like a picture that alludes to another story."
